The 1972 Stadium High School band trip was 50 years ago! To commemorate this great trip, I've posted some pics on my site. Here's some background for those unfamiliar with the trip:

Our band director John (Jack) Lloyd had become friends with world famous trumpet soloist Rafael Mendez, and invited him to join us on our trip to the International Band Festival in Vienna. The gregarious, semi-retired legend accepted, and played numerous concerts with us as we traveled throughout 6 countries in Europe. Our 3 week trip started in Frankfurt, traveling to Innsbruck for 2 days, then on to Vienna for almost a week. From there we went south to Italy; Pisa and Florence for several days. We turned around and went back into Alps where we stopped for a great dinner in an Italinan village, arranged for by Paul Margelli, choir director at Stadium, and trip chaperone. Then on to the Grand Hotel in Montreaux for 2 nights, where Rafael did some jamming with the local musicians in the lounge. We next went (via Hiedleberg & Neustadt) to play a night concert in Market Square in the heart of Brussels. Last stop was a few days in Amsterdam.

If anyone has additional info, or can identify any of the buildings or locations in the photos, I'd like to include it in this gallery. Contact me at:
