This area is just a few hours SE of Santiago, and is accessed via the road up through Cajon De Maipo, the Rio de Maipo and the Rio Volcan.
The old trail head to Cerro Union and beyond, is no longer accessible becuase of a hydo-electric project, which is where we parked at about 7900'. We walked an old mining road for several miles to the old trail head. Nothing is marked in Chile, which makes hiring a guide a good idea. Our day with Naio Pardo was only about $100, and she has climbed most all the peaks in the area.
